On Saturday, I visited my grandmother; and as a new octogenarian, she remains as vivacious as ever, smiling and chiding as though I were still a new babe in this world. And in fact, there really was a baby in the house – my uncle’s son Alex was born two years ago. While the women (my grandmother, my mom, my aunt and even my grandmother’s friends) cooed and coddled him who was sleeping comfortably in their arms, I sat silently reading my book and being still to the sounds of new life. This small, ebullient celebration which brought out such markedly unexpected responses from my family, has caused me to revise my own perceptions, and has opened my heart to a filial life that one day I may be called to lead.

My New House…Well not _my_ new house, but I will be living here!
